Anti Dandruff shampoo - recommendations please!

I've recently started getting dandruff, no idea why and I need to buy something to treat it.
I've got quite long hair which gets dry so would normally use a shampoo which moisturises and I'm worried that an anti dandruff shampoo might be harsh and strip my hair.
Can anyone recommend a shampoo that is effective but kind to my hair?
Thank you!

Use twice a week
Use normal shampoo the rest of the time0 -

I've been using Aveda scalp therapy shampoo for a long time and it's perfect for my very sensitive scalp. It's not cheap but it does last a long long time.
Edited to say I would steer clear of anti-dandruff shampoos, they are incredibly harsh on your hair and can often aggravate your condition. Go for milder gentler shampoos.
I know Boots will take back face creams if you react to them - they might be the same with shampoos??0 -

Thanks for all the advice, I've got a few to choose from ny the looks of it
Belfastgirl, I suspected that most anti-dandruff shampoos were quite harsh, I did try Nizoral and even just using it once a week made my fine hair feel like wire wool. Shame really as I've heard its actually very effective.0 -

Yes it makes your hair feel like wire wool but that happens with treatment shampoos for dandruff rather then shampoo that flushes away shampoo build up
Nizoral works on Seborrhoeic Dermatitis - a yeast infection which gives an itchy and scabby scalp. If you have that kind of dandruff you will know about it as it forms in patches and doesnt show as the head and shoulder adverts show - small white bits along partings
If you have just white "dust" then it really usually is only a shampoo build up and a gentle shampoo with a thorough rinsing regime will work
If you have flakes because of something else ( seb derm for a starter) then you need a dedicated medicated shampoo and use as instructed0 -
Agree with suki, in some cases you will need to use those kinds of prescription type shampoos and it's worth talking to your pharmacist just to see do they think this is the case for you. I was thinking of head and shoulders type shampoo which gave me the worst itch I've ever had0

Hi there,
Just wanted suggest / recommend Soak and Float solid shampoo from Lush. I use it for dandruff / flaky scalp....its quite mild, and leaves my hair in good condition....but takes some getting used to, if you are not used to solid shampoo!
Hth!
Edited to add - bit of a warning though, it honks / is not the most pleasant smelling product!0 -
Oh I love the smell of Lush Soak and Float - smells like tar mmmmmm ! Thank you for reminding me about it
OP my dd has that dermatitis on her scalp and I tend to buy either T gel or Alphosyl from Boots, but tbh I haven't found anything that completely gets rid of it.
Regards
