Prestwick is a lovely wee town, I love it. The beach is very nice and as someone else said there is a massive kids play area just off the beach and loads of climbing frames etc outside.
The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.

Culzean Castle is my absolute favourite, theres the races to go to if they're on, as someone said the ten pin bowling, Heads of Ayr Farm Park which is nice but v expensive, Dunure beach is lovely and theres a wee climb up to an old partial castle which is good and also theres loads of rock pools to explore, the walk along the prom at ayr beach is nice and the playpark at the low green. There's also a Pavilion which houses a kids play area with laser quest too.
I also enjoy going to Belleisle Park although they sadly shut down the pets corner about 2 years ago :(
Theres the !!!!!! Institute in Kilmarnock which is quite interesting although I haven't been since I was a tiny tot. And my personal 'musts' when I show non-locals around is the Electric Brae (quite freaky) and the BUrns Heritage park which I go to every year :) From the Heritage Centre you can look at the Auld Kirk which is where Tam O'Shanter supposedly watched the witches party with the devil.
    Hope that helps xx

  • Thanks for all the replies. Quite a bit of information to digest.

Will have the car with us, so happy to travel a wee bit.

Kids are 10, 8 and 4, so the cultural side of things will probably be lost on them.

As regards shopping, I avoid it like the plague. Keep telling the wife, there's no need for shopping, that's what the internet was invented for :)
The person who says it cannot be done should not interrupt the person doing it.

I left Ayr before that new shopping bit was open, went back and was totally disoriented!

Shopping wise I like the designer jewellers Christine....(something) on the high street...not too expensive, if she is still there.

    Love Culzean too.

Heads of Ayr park is good for the kids- trampolines, zip slide, feeding the animals bag of food is 50p I think.

The park is good in Ayr town centre too.
