Welcome visiting my in laws - very wrong but what to do?

I had a loan with Welcome Finance, recently payed off :) but during the time I had the loan I missed a payment date, which I understand I shouldn't have done.

I had recently moved into my Fiancees house and so I believe Welcome may have found this out or found out the town I had moved to and a Welcome Finance representative turned up at the door of my Fiancees parents house who live in the same town.

When we next visited the inlaws, who are both elderly pensioners, they told us about this and seemed quite distressed about it all. The Welcome rep had said (quote) "you need to get ****** to bring his loan payments up to date". Now you can understand why the in laws were quite distressed about this, its quite a threatening statement. But not only that they had disclosed details about my loan to a 3rd party, this is completely unacceptable.

I understand the OFT Guidance states that is communicating in a deceptive or misleading way is unfair practice so it may come under this but I dont know who to report them to etc or if there is another avenue I can go through for this?

I wondered if anyone had any suggestions about how to deal with this behavior, having paid off the loan I don't really have that as leverage as such. I would be grateful for any advise on this specifically?

Thanks in advance guys!

Presumably they only visited before you paid the balance off? (thats not meant to sound like its ok that they went at all)

Definitely against OFT guidelines and I would think probably a breach of the data protection act. You could complain to the OFT and to your local trading standards. Possibly the ICO regarding the DPA?

    Hey Tixy,

Yes you are correct the visit was before I paid of the loan

Thanks for the reply and advice, I hadnt thought about ICO for data protection - thats another to add to the list!
