Avoid BT's homehub like the plague. It's been nothing but trouble.
  • thanks for that does anyone have any ideas? i have found a net gear wireless router netgear wgt624. looks good does anyone else have this? where can i find a good cheap laptop with built it wireless?
  • how cheap do you want the laptop to be and who is your internet service provider (some use different ways of getting the internet to you comp so you have to pick the router accordingly, theres only 2 types though :) )
  • Sorry to jump onto your thread, but im looking for a router as well. Im with BT broadband and have just bought the following laptop

Bob - this site is spot on for laptops, and you get 2% cashback through quidco.

streather - you mentioned that there are two types. which would i need? Looking to spend £30 / £40, would like the connection to be as fast as possible really.
  • i have ntl broadband and have a cable modem. is the netgear wgt624 compatable with this? thanks.
  • I have four computers networked with a netgear dg834G, i think they are on offer at pc world at the moment, I have limited knowledge when it comes to computers but have also set up a network for three other friends very easily with this router

the netgear dg834g isnt terribly fast, but it is good. i've sold and installed about 30 of them. the netgear rangemax costs a bit more but is at least twice the speed and a much stronger signal.

Oh, one thing to bear in mind, if you really want 'fast' wireless access, the wireless card is probably going to be the weak link.
