Why the discrepency?

I have been at work following uni and have been paying 220 PCM in maintenance. This figure was based on the CSA / CM Options website and my details.

Since then my ex has requested a review. I sent off the forms and have been advised I have to pay 401.89 PCM plus 20.00 PCM to arrears.

How is this worked out? We did used to use CSA but they haven't been involved for at least 5 years. For the last 3 years we worked to the agreed figure.

This change has left me in the brown sticky stuff...

Any advice?

there should be a breakdown of the calculations in the payment schedule.

It may be that your ex is not declaring that the maontenance money you have been giving her for 5 years is 'actual child maintenance'!! Sometimes comes to bite the non-resident parent in private arrangements! Any chance she could have contacted CSA quite some time ago!

You will need to get your DATA Protection File costs £10 via NACSA template, you should receive in 40 days from CSA and it should hold all assessments/communication etc.

The date of any CSA assessment starts from date they contacted you, so they must have gone to HMRC for your earnings, you can go on CSA calculator to see if this is correct, as you will have been accruing arrears from date they contacted you

I'm in the same boat as you!

I've sent off for my data protection files and waiting to hear back. We initially got a quote through the CSA of how much maintainance I dhould pay but we opted for maintainance direct. The CSA don't get involved and don't check payments as it's a private agreement and nothing to do with them. So if it breaks down there should be no arrears/refunds to either side and the CSA start charging their rate until another assesment is done. (I bugged them everyday to get mine done and it was done pretty quick!)

Anyway last year our agreement broke down as she stopped me seeing the kids (because I went parents evening???) so i decided not to pay her what we agreed and use the money to take her court. She contacted the CSA to let them know that I had not paid. It was August last year I first heard from the CSA about paying in over 4 years. They said I should be paying £461 pcm because I was £16000 in arrears!!!!! I challenged it and now I pay £185 and am refusing to pay the arrears until they force me to or I can prove that I don't owe it them which is why I've asked for data protection files my ex is completely uncoopartive.

They LIE LIE LIE!!!! when you challenge them about the arrears they seem to get nasty on the phone. One of them told me I'd be better off on the doll and laughed!!

I haven't used NASCA but I'm definatly going to! I'd recomend you should as well.

They apparently do this even though were willing to pay to make their target and figures look good. Since dealing with the CSA I've spoke to loads of people to where the CSA have made 'mistakes'. I'd also get in touch with your local MP.

I forgot to mention the CSA contcted me in 2008 with arrears of £19.75. When I contacted them about it I was told to ignore it as it was a computer mistake. Yet never mentioned any money I don't actually owe them that they are saying I do now. HMM??
