Are the 'Gaming' SD cards any different than ordinary SD cards ?
Or is it just marketing to charge unsuspecting people more for the same product ?
I would like to buy one for my son's Wii, but don't want to get conned.

My (less than £10) Kingston 1Gb card from Amazon is working just fine in my Wii.Bear in mind the Wii has 512Kb build in anyway.
I have copied my saved games on to the SD card and also used it to copy movies/photos for the Wii Photo channel.0 -
My 2GB Datawrite card, also from Amazon for about £20, works perfectly fine in our Wii so no, you don't need any specific gaming card.He huihuinga taangata he pukenga whakaaro – A meeting of people; a wellspring of ideas (Maori proverb)0

I just ordered a 2gb Kingston for under £17 from Amazon today for my Wii. Don't get conned into buying the 'official' product!0

The card may have a higher read/write speed, than normal. I have seen ones which are 150x speed available, typically for high end digital cameras which write large files, and you may be needing the camera to be ready as fast as possible.
Other than that, as far as I know, there is no difference between a 'normal' card and a gaming one. Just avoid cards labelled SD2.0 or SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) as very few devices actually support these cards.0 -
