My son is lucky as when he does a four hour shift he gets a 15 minute PAID teabreak and on a full day TWO paid treabreaks!
you can't be made to take a break unless you have been working for 3 hours0 -

Where does that come from?
Any references or is this another this is how it worked at my place so that must be the law.
H&S is fairly clear on VDU use and breaks(applies to all work places)

a friend of mine who was in a union told me as at my old office I was told 'we can tell you to go to lunch whenever we like' and I was told they can't make me take a lunch break unless I had been in work 3 hrs meaning 12 pm was the earliest I could be made to go .
I am sure it was online as well and will try to find it. All I am saying is that surely a company cant tell you to go to lunch at 10am and then you are still working at 6pm with no other breaks, or can they? Maybe they can?
I had a wrist rest for the keyboard and my desk highered and a support for the mouse and the PC screen raised too and was probably noted as a trouble maker as no one else had these items and until I started they never had to do anything.
No never had eyes tested at last job and they didn't like you coming to them to tell them they had to pay for the eye test
No idea what a workplace assesment, but if you mean them checking the area , no.0 -

So it was a thats what they did at my old place, and not a thats the law.
You need to clarify your statements they are too often just they way it has been done at your places.0 -

so by law you can be made to go to lunch at 10am?0 -
The only guidance is that it can't be at the start or the end of the working day so in theory yes, they could say you have to go to lunch at 10am. But how many employees would they keep?
Just because people tell you stuff doesn't make it true. You need to check for yourself. It's easy to google H&S breaks and the official info is all there for you. It's better to double check than tell other people things that are not right.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j
