Disney Princess backpack £2.25 @Tesco

Was in one of my many local Tescos today (Haydock) and they had some Disney Princess items at half price and below. I got this backpack

http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.211-8995.aspx

which said £5 down to £2.25 on the shelf ticket. It scanned at £5 and I had to ask the cashier to check it and re-price it at £2.25 for me.

They also had Disney Princess pull-along mini suitcases at £5.
I can't stand the whole princess thing but my daughter loves it so she was chuffed with it!
Hope this helps someone.

You have so much to learn! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but you could actually have gotten the backpack for free plus 50p if you'd said nothing then taken it to Customer Services and been given Double The Difference (DTD) back i.e £5 - £2.25 = £2.75, £2.75 * 2 = £5.50, £5.50 - £5 = 50p profit)

Sounds like a nice bargain but if you had gone to customer services after paying, you would have got double the difference so £5.50 refunded as per Tesco policy, so they would have paid you 50p to take it away! Well done anyway. :T

    clearly, I'm the slowest typist!

I hate to see someone missing out on a bargain!

Was explaining all this to my neighbour tonight. She was torn between the Mega Bloks and the iPod speakers as to which was the funniest DTD I'd gotten!
  • Oh well! Hopefully someone who knows a bit more about these things can go and make more money out of it than I did, I don't shop in Tesco usually (hate the place) so didn't know about the scheme!

You're in good company here for hating Tesco. They don't usually promote the DTD for overcharges but when you know you can get it then you learn to keep your lips zipped if something scans higher than expected. I hope you didn't take any offense at my initial post, I just wanted you to be aware that although you could tell the checkout operator that the price is wrong you could also get a wee bit more money back. Every little helps and all that ;)

I got totally scammed with this one in warrington store today. I picked it up as it said £2.25 on the shelf. I only had £2.50 cash and no cards on me. Went to the till and it scanned at £5. I told her it was priced on the shelf at £2.25 (Didnt have the money to pay the £5 and then claim DTD - Was gutted). Anyway the cashier sent someone to check and they came back and said it was an error on the ticket and they couldnt sell it at that price. So had to leave it there and leave the store with my dd having a big tantrum as she really wanted the bag!

  • caz2703 - not at all, in fact thanks for enlightening me and I will look out for more misprices in the future!
Melanie - sorry you had no luck with this, I thought they had to honour the ticket price but maybe I'm wrong.

You could try phoning CS and see what they say. Explain that your daughter really wanted it but when you attempted to buy it you were refused. It is unfortunately the right of the store to refuse sale but if you explain that if you had bought it you could have gotten it for free, maybe they'll take pity on you.

Not 100% sure if you should chalk it up to experience or if it's worth phoning so maybe someone else will put their tuppence to it?
