Not EVERYTHING in Argos is a bargain - be warned!

Most major retailers do this now. The company I work for does it all the time. When new stock comes in we all say "heres another half price item next month" !! We don't usually bother putting the items on display at the ridiculous price because they won't sell and the space can be used for something that will. If you want to buy something do your homework.
As for "far from honest" I agree and our marketing dept regularly get slated for this on our internal forum but what they put out is thoroughly checked for being legal.0 -
I bought the Pooh Storyteller advertised on here at £8.99, then just before Christmas it was £14.99 in the sale, now £24.99 in the sale (£29.99 in catalogue!)2025 - finally back comping after a stressful house move - send me fairy dust please0

yeah i would agree with that!
Maybe once Tesco Direct etc start upping the game it might change!

i think pricing has been driven by more than index closing.
eg
price of raw materials has risen alot,
if anything market is tougher with tescos and co moving into the same areas.
The sort of price drop promo you mention is pretty much standard
everywhere these days, although that delongi microwave is still nice for the price.0 -
i generally find amazon the best price wise - argos do get some great bargains in but very rare to find them in stock which puts me off0

and the price of fuel, rent, electricity, wages, gas, water etc etc etc has gone up since Index closed- I mean if they stayed open and gave Argos some competition then this would never have happened...

There was a time when Argos was THE price leader - everyone checked Argos first for price.
These days I rarely, if ever, buy anything from Argos. There is almost always some other company selling what I want more cheaply, or that have stock when Argos don't.
The only time I use Argos is when there is a true "Grabbit" offer, like the Star Wars DVDs or the XBoxes, otherwise I never go in there.
The only OTHER real use for Argos is the catalogue! My kids use it to decide what to ask Father Christmas for, they write their list, then I give it to Santa who shops for them in stores other than Argos! You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0
