Hi Folks
I work as a kitchen assistant at the moment. There has become an internal vacancy for an assistant cook. The vacancy was also advertised in the local paper. I have now been seklected for the interview stage, along with other, I presume, external candidates.
CAn someon please advice what type of questions can I be asked at the interview?
Thanks in advance for your response.

Bone up on your food safety knowledge and practice making an omelette.:D0

Hmm maybe questions about why you'd like to be an assistant cook, what previous experience you have, what areas of cooking particularly interest you, whether you're willing to possibly work very long hours, how you can demonstrate reliability...
Ability to demonstrate a knowledge of food safety will be good - you may have already picked a lot of this up through your role as kitchen assistant- ie correct chopping boards, how to store food safely, holding temperatures, fridge temperatures, stock rotation.0 -
Definitely the food hygiene thing that people have mentioned, have you done a Food Hygiene course through work yet? You will probably have to do the Level 2 course if you do get the role so express an interest in training!
You have an advantage by already working there, all the external candidates will be envious of your insight, experience and already knowing people so make the most of it, if you already take the initiative and help people out more than you are expected to then make sure your interviewer is aware of that. You might also be familiar with exactly what tasks the person you would be replacing does in the kitchen at the moment and can say what you have observed etc. Knowing your interviewer is always an advantage as it takes away a lot of the nerves you can feel before an interview, if you have met them before then you don't need to worry quite as much about first impressions!
Good luck :-)0
