Boblar's DFW Journey

Hello guys,

I'm new on the forums. I have been following the advice on the main website for ages; I have applied for credit cards, shifted debts to 0% ones and long-term low rate ones and followed all the moneysaving guides and yet I seem to still be in exactly the same position I was when I started. I generally do well for 1 or 2 months and then think I've done so well that I should go out and buy myself a reward, immediately removing the dent I'd just put in the debt. Ridiculous I know but paying off debt takes SO LONG. I like new things and experiences, I like fashion, I love food and I booze a lot, and all of this requires a great deal of money.

After a lot of thought, and reading about The Law Of Sacrifice at theartofmanliness.com however (sorry, it won't let me post a proper link because I'm new), I am freshly inspired to do this properly. I am ready to admit that I am going to have to make a long-term commitment to this in order to come out at the end richer and with more life choices, because I'll never have to worry about making sure I've got enough money for minimum payments every month.

I return to the UK in August after a year working abroad so once I've set myself up in London, I'll post my SOA in this thread and make regular contributions to make sure this goal stays stuck, firmly, in the front of my mind.

So yeah, this is just to introduce myself and say hi. Looking forward to chatting with you all! :D

Hi and welcome to the forums.

I know how you feel about paying off debt taking so long - but I think for most of us it took years to get into debt as well - or to get to the highest debt figure we reach before deciding to stop increasing the debt.

Once you have done your SoA then you could use the snowball calculator to see how far away your debt free date is, and from there hopefully you can work on bringing that down with small changes etc.

Good luck on your debt free journey.

Just dropping in to say hello and good luck on your debt free journey.
Plenty of support and help here on this board. And a kick up the backside if you need it :D
We're looking at 8 years before we're debt free so I know what you mean about it taking ages. But it will be worth it.
Look forward to your SoA when you're settled.
