financially associated

trying to clean up my files and have been divorced for over a year now, separated for 6 years,

there is nothing on equifax but on experian
its still showing my ex husband on my files as being financially linked to joint accounts we had which are dated as june 2005.

what can i do about these? obviously we are not linked in any way now and these accounts were defaulted and closed years ago.
is this dragging my score down.

i did email experian and they got back saying they didnt have enough information to remove him???

If all the joint accounts are paid off and closed then you file a notice of disassociation - which asks for quite a bit of specific info (ie all his identity details, his DOB etc) - http://www.uk.experian.com/contactforms/consumer_onlinedisassociation.html

If he has negative items on his credit file (not the joint accounts but other items) and you are financially associated the negatives will affect your ability to get new credit products (or what rate you might be offered etc).

well as i mentioned, he is just out of prison so hasnt had any credit for a few years, but there might be things on there that are still less than 6 years old so ill need to see about that

If he went into prison owing any money then I guess he could have been awarded CCJs or defaults whilst he was in prison. So whilst you cannot see what is on his file you really should complete the notice of disassociation regardless.
