I went back to get another couple today and used 100 points from my beautycard towards them leaving only 20p to pay.
Best news - I was thrilled to see that I was still awarded the bonus points (plus one for the £1 spend) despite redeeming points!
So redeemed 100 points, spent 20p, got 2 toothpastes, plus another 51 points! :j
