Careers counselling?

Hello

I've posted a few threads on here already about my work situation and I know I need to look to leave as my only real long term solution. I'm going to see a careers counsellor to try and get some advice about which careers would suit me. I wondered if anybody had any advice about finding one?

Thanks

  • Next Step are quite good. I'm sorry I don't remember your posts but if you recently left university the Careers Service may still be open to you. If you've had a lot of experience Penna are quite good too. Life coaches aren't cheap but they often do this sort of work.

Is there anything in particular you're looking to address?

Thanks. I left University 9 years ago so I don't think their Careers Service would be an option. I've got a degree and I've worked in a field related to my degree ever since, but I don't think it's for me. I certainly don't have any passion anymore for the subject area. I feel let down by my employer for numerous reasons. I've come to the conclusion I have a very strong sense of what I see is 'fair' and I find it difficult to work in an environment where there is so much unfairness and hypocrisy.

I want to move on, but I don't want to jump out of the frying pan into the fire. I feel that if I just search the job ads and take something, anything to leave, I could end up in an even worse situation. I want to make the move worthwhile and make a considered choice with my career direction and to do that I think I need some help to discover where my strengths and weaknesses lie, what motivates me and what doesn't.

    Thanks again

The uni careers service might still be open to you as an alumna - try their website? They may not be the best people to ask for advice at this stage, but are likely to have lots of 'background' info eg. identifying your strengths, info on entry to different fields etc, so might be worth looking at if it's free.

    Good luck :)
