Daft Question about White Powder Makeup

This is so daft but I've tried Googling and all I'm getting is YouTube tutorials or dodgy News of the World articles.
What exactly is 'white powder' and where can I get it from? I tried looking in Boots and Superdrug but I'm not even sure what it is so I'm not having much luck finding any.
I'm asking because I've agreed to go to an Alice Cooper concert with my BFF and we're going in fancy dress. I'm going as Sweeney Todd so I've got to get my face looking like:

I don't wear makeup so I don't even know where to start. Zombie tutorials on YouTube all suggest white powder to stop me rubbing white facepaint off but you can imagine what Googling the stuff brings up
Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated!

Barry M sells a white foundation (found here http://www.barrym.com/foundation-creme)
And all of the "Goth" makeup brands sell white face powder.0 -

talc is good :money:or if u wanna go up a level, translucent setting powder is great-most makeup counters do it...clinique,illamasca etc HTHCarpe Jugulem0 -
Mac supply many of the film and theatrical productions with their makeup. Mac have an online site and also their own stores, if your near one they also have a stand in Selfridges.0

Thank you, everybody
I'll try talc first as that's easiest to get hold of. I don't wear makeup because I'm terrible for touching my face and rubbing it off or smearing it, so if it can't stand up to my abuse then I'll try the makeup setting powder.'til the end of the line0 -
hi,couldn't you just use childrens face paints?am thinking they would be much cheaper than real make-up.
and also gentler on the skin, espesh if you don't usually wear make-up?0 -
i use one by Grimas (http://www.grimasmakeup.co.uk/makeup_tools.html) as used it for elizabethan make up etc and is brilliant. i also mix it with my own powders to make them a bit lighter if they need it. comes in a massive tub and bought it 2 years ago and have not even used 1/10 of it yet0

I'd suggest snazaroo facepaint. I used this when I spent the evening in fancydress as Starchild from Kiss.
If you brush it on very lightly with a small sponge and allow it to dry, and then build up in layers for more coverage, it doesn't smudge and sets quite like a powder.
Have a great time xx

I've used this for fancy dress before and its great stuff. The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -

I bought my makeup last week and I got Snazaroo. I'm glad it's been recommended
Re children's facepaint, thanks for the suggestion but I'm not sure it'd stay on well enough or look quite right. I've never had my face painted but I seem to think white paint and powder look fairly different.
My main concern is getting it to stay on because my friend is desperate to be at the front so I'll be standing around in it for four hours before I even get in the venue, and then it's got to last through a hot and sticky concert. When it gets a bit closer to the date I'm going to try talc and then makeup setting powder if it doesn't work.'til the end of the line0 -
Suggest you use a good quality face paint for this. You should not use anything on your skin which is not skin safe. You can also use Mehron barrier spray if you wish the design to hold for a while, although all face paints are water based so will start to come off if you sweat a lot which the barrier spray will help prevent.
Grimas do a white theatrical cake make up which is excellent for what you want and will stay on quite well.
Try www.facepaintsdirect.co.uk and look for cake make up or face paints. They also sell setting powders and barrier sprays. If you're not behind our soldiers.....please feel free to stand in front of them!0
