How Long......

Can I keep the wolves from the door?
I am sooo worried as I have just done a bad thing regarding Halifax. The majority of my debts are with Halifax and I have lived in my overdraft facility for 6 years. I have a loan with them and also a credit card.
I wish I was someone else right now as I am floundering. I opened a co-op account on 1st July and all my benefits are now being paid into this account. I have been unemployed since Jan and have been paying all my creditors £2-5 per month.
I moved my bank as Halifax said they would take all my money.
Questions:
1) Do I set up the existing standing orders from Halifax account to my creditors?
2) Capital One take payments from my Halifax current account via debit card so how will I keep them quiet?
Thank you

  • Opening accounts away away from the prying fingers of your creditors is not a bad idea; if you think you are in financial difficulty.

Have you sought advice from Citizens Advice, CCCS or another free debt advice charity? If not, they really are best placed to advise you. On the face of it, it sounds as if you have made the right move with the co-op. Often, if you go to a debt charity (such as CCCS or PayPlan - you'll end up paying the money to them each month and then it's divvied up and passed (100%) to your creditor(s). This allows for a little more anonymity.

Resolve to speak to an expert ASAP. Try and be positive; you have acknowledged you're having difficulties - which is an important step. Look to see how you can save money wherever possible. Be assured, these problems can be sorted in time if you get help from the right people.

Thank you for the replies. I have sought advice from CAB and bankruptcy is really my only option. I am desperately trying to save up the £700 by selling stuff ( terrible weather for a boot fair today tho!) I am just really worried as I will not have the money to do my BR until November at the earliest. How will I keep all my creditors at bay until then? I have yet another question but will post a new topic.
