I ended up in A&E after eating too many of the sugar free sweets from a well known brand! (I wont name names as I'm pretty sure all sugar free brands give similar results). I was in AGONY! My stomach felt like it kept cramping, nothing seemed to help, no deflatine or charcole pills or anything relieved it and it was so immediate I was definate something was wrong.
I took some time off them and was lured back to some chewy sugar free sweets which brought out my fillings! (weightwatchers are the only brand I know make these). I lost so many and gained so much pain as a result: the acid from the sweeteners is actually stronger then that in sugar so be careful, sucking on a sweet (or worse, chewing: smashing the broken sweet around your mouth) and your bathing your mouth in all sorts of chemicals and none of which promote teeth.
I also wanted to add that though chewing gum is another option, its since taking up this stuff my dentist has become certain I am grinding my teeth at night- I'm not, I am though chewing gum with xylitol in. A better option to the sweets but not without its own issues.
As for lower calories (if this was anyones aim) whilst there is about 1/3 fewer calories in the sweets (they still have calories and its roughly 10-15 a sweet as oppose to 25-35 with a normal sweet) where chocolate stands, there are more calories in sugar free chocolate then compared to most normal chocolate.0
