Tax rebate message sent to my junk mail

Hi, dont know if this is the best place to post..... went into my Emails this evening, and in my Junk mail there was what appeared to be a message from HMRC,stating that i`m due £968 tax refund.
I`ve not opened it fully as a bit wary, does this sound legitimate??
Am i best to call the tax office on Monday ??
Would be lovely if it`s legit :)
Any advice given would be appreciated

It's a well known scam - delete it.

    HMRC do not send emails.

You've probably already deleted it but always forward these to HMRC phishing@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk so they can investigate and close down the source.

I have to say it wasn't easy to find on the HMRC website. They really should have on their front page something about security saying they never send emails and where to send these type of emails if you receive one.
Did you really mean to put loose?
Lose: no longer possess, not to retain, unable to find
Loose: not firmly or tightly fixed in place

Another hint that it is a scam is they will put GBP instead of £ as the scammers don't have a pound sign on their keyboard!
