Am thinking of wandering up to the fringe this year to have a look, does anyone know if we have to book tickets or is it a turn up and see kind of a do?
Got a couple of cheap nights in a travelodge and now to plan what we can do.
Thanks all

You would be best to book in advance if you are only here for a couple of days but should still be able to get cheap offers on the day too, have a look here for the fringe:

and here for the festival:

I haven't been to the Festival for a few years but my memory is that you need to be quite organised about booking shows so that you get to see what you want and to allow enough time to get between venues.0

Google for edinburgh free fringe to get a list of all the free shows. I go to a lot of free ones every year and only pay to see a few.0

Depending on when you come upto Edinburgh can greatly affect whether you need to book.
If you come up on a weekend at the end of the festival you will definitely need to book as all good acts will have had several reviews and word of mouth which sells out their shows.
If you are attending on the first weekend of the festival there will be lots of 2 for 1 deals and half price tickets as it is classed as preview weekend, this is where acts are fine-tuning their act and trying to gauge what works and does not work.0 -
It depends who/what you are wanting to see as well. We usually book tickets for some of the bigger name comedians as they will generall sell out but then will also have a wander round and just pick up tickets on the day for some of the smaller shows.0

The Fringe's Half Price Hut operates on the Mound from 10-29 August. As the name suggests, it sells half price tickets on the day for shows where there is still availability. Tickets for morning shows are available the evening before.
