Credit report when you get married ie change of name?

Sorry, this really has just popped up into my head and its annoying me!

When you get married you change your name....so how does your credit report change? Obviously it isn't going to get wiped but how does it work as essentially you are the same person but your names changed and thats how you are identified. Does that make sense? I'm just curious, I've spent the last hour trying NOT to ask the question

Well you have to notify your creditors that you have changed your name so your credit agreements will effectively be transferred into the new name. So nothing changes really except the name on the account. Once the information about the account is updated to your credit file, bingo, you've got an accurate report.

When I got married and changed my name I called all my cards etc and told them and they must have reported it to the CRAs. I have a bit on my file called something like 'also known as' with my maiden name in it.

I applied for a new card not long afterwards in my married name with no problems.
