(1st time poster) a question RE: salary.

hi there! im Brown town, and this is my 1st post

a quick question:

im currently looking for a job online and when looking at the salary, am i right in thinking that its shown before tax and NI etc? If so is there an estimated % i can deduct to get a brief idea of the ammount after tax?

im asking this because i would like to find a job which pays more than i am currently in (who doesn't!) which is around 750 a month AFTER tax.

Thank You.

Basic Rate Tax is 20% and NI 11%. So about 30%, but remember your first £7450 per year is tax free.

So you need something around £10k or more.
  • It seems that salaries are always quoted gross i.e. before deductions. This could be because people's affairs are different so they may pay different amounts of tax - student loans may be an example - or because the net amount is so much less!
