Can I wash a wedding dress at home in the bath?

I washed my daughter's dress in the bath, wrapped it in bath towels to get the worst of the water out and then left it to drip dry over the washing line and then over the bannisters. It came up lovely!0

The dressmaker who altered my dress told me that she used to work in a bridal shop, they would put the dresses in duvet covers and put them on the lowest setting in the washing machine. She also told me that her daughter had just cleaned her dress this way!
I'm a coward though & daren't try it, but good luck with getting it cleaned in time!:heartpuls dawnebabe :heartpuls0 -
Have you got any "sample" fabric of the same material you can test first?0

I found a dry cleaners who would do it in three days for £60 in the end. Thanks - I was not brave enough to try it myself.0
