Queery on Shift Changes

Howdy all.
looking for some info and any response is greatly appreciated.
Whats happened is i've been working in the same job for about 5 years now part time over 16 hours. due to me being at uni I've pretty much always done my shifts over a 3 day period (at least for the past year to year and a half).
In the last week I received a new area manager who is demanding as of next week that i change to do my shifts over 5 days which with uni is not a viable option as its hours that coincide with uni.
As far as Im aware(not got my copy of my contract at hand) my contract said 16 hours and never gave specific days nor how many days I should work.
Do I have any rights to either ample notice for my shift changes or able to keep my current shift pattern? Also if he continues to demand I change my shifts has he a right to sack me or anything like that?
thanks for the time to read and/or reply.

Do you work for a supermarket? When I worked for the supermarket beginning with M, my contract was 16 hours over 2 days, and this suited me due to commitments with family members, but from time to time they would try to get me to do 4x4 hour shifts. I did try and argue my case about my contract etc but was told my senior management due to "needs of the business" they can change my contract at any given time with 16 weeks notice. I'm unsure how true any of that is though. The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0

You need to find your contract and see exactly what it states.
Did you sign something that stated what times you were free or when you agreed you could work?
Because I had to do that when I worked in a supermarket whilst at school, and then my shifts were only allowed to put be in the days/times you said you were free to work (when they started giving me silly shifts, I simply went to HR and changed my time sheet, so they could only put my shifts in when I wanted).
However, we got a new manager and she pretty much ignored all the rules, just tried to get whatever she could out of people hoping they wouldnt stand up to her. One was that if they gave you I think 4 weeks notice, they could make you do 50% of your hours on top, so for me 16, which was way too much for me to do on top of school, however the manager barely used to get the hours up 2 weeks in advance and never did it, until once they put the hours up their usual 2 weeks in advance and mine was down for 16.
I said I wasn't doing it and she said 'yes but its in your contract you can do 50% more', and I said yes but 'My contract also says you have to tell me 4 weeks in advance' and she said 'Oh well I tried didnt I'!
She was just having it on to see if I knew what was in my contract as plenty of other people didnt, and didnt stand up to the managers. Another time she tried to alter my breaks on my shift to something that was not right, another trip to the HR office soon sorted that.
So check out your contact, see what you signed, and then if the manager is in the wrong, try speaking to them to explain, and if they won't listen go to HR.
16 hours over 5 days seems a bit silly in that wouldnt you only be going in for about 3 hours at a time?0
