Being a recent Mother of the bride, we found that if you do not stipulate your wishes in black and white you will get the guests preference.

If you invite John and Mandy and they have 5 kids, you will get John, Mandy and at least 3 of 5 kids!

Be specific, its your day. Enjoy it x

    Thank you for the replies.
The reasoning is partly wanting a more adult/serious day and mainly the venue we have chosen not being able to cater for more than 4 young children for a sit down meal. (The numbers under 5 are in double figures)

As we are invite children to the evening too I have drafted this:

Unfortunately we are unable to invite children, other than within the bridal party, to the ceremony and wedding breakfast. We very much look forward to them joining us in the evening for the celebrations.
Please indicate what parts of the day you are able to attend when you RSVP.

    What do you guys think?

    I think that sounds good.

    That is exactly my worry.
It would be lovely to trust that people know what I mean when their children aren't named but I just can't trust that someone won't think that I just forgot their childs name. Or that one little kid won't hurt

Have sent some of the invites out now so hoping I'm not in for some angry phone calls!
