dam i wondered what that sign was i forgot to put up in the store, wondered if it said "warning milk is going to go up in price tomorrow, buy now "

did you expect a warning from the store ? stores hardly get any notice on any price changes, first time they know is when they put the new prices out.

In fact other supermarkets, including Tesco and Sainsbury are clearly indicating the closing date of their "special offers" on milk.
    :p
Thanks to all who replied with useful information about prices in other stores.

In my local Tesco (Bramley in Leeds) they do 4 pints of milk for £1. It's branded as 'Creamfields' and is available there in semi-skimmed and whole.

I never noticed it before the 2 for £2 offer ended and became 3 for £3.

My OH managed to get some 1% milk (think it was 2 litres) from Swinnow Morrisons the other day, it scanned through self-scan at 50p if that helps anyone. Might not be the right price as he said the machine wasn't having any of it but the SA put it through anyway.

Yea the creamfields one is a good one like, I used to get it when they had 3litre bottles for like £1.10! They only do 2ltr bottles now thou!
The Morrisons offer was only on for a week, think its back to normal price (about £1.49) in my local store (Guiseley in Leeds) now.

These deals of 3 x 4pints for £3 are fine for those that have families. People that live alone, such as myself or don't have much milk are priced out.

I only buy 4 pints of milk in Iceland if there is at least 8 days on the use by date, which isn't often the case as 4 pints lasts me a week. I buy 2 pints.

You can freeze milk. I buy the 4 pints from Iceland too, but I decant 3 pints of it into 3 x 1 pint bottles and freeze them. You could do the same. When your 2 pint bottle is empty give it a wash out, buy a 4 pint bottle and decant 2 pints into your 2 pint bottle and freeze.

I use Morrisons baby sterilizing liquid to sterilise my milk bottles, it'sa cheap and you only need a little.

Don't forget that milk expands when frozen, so fill to within an inch of the top then squeeze the bottle until the milk reaches the top, then put the lid on firmly and the milk will have enough room to expand without bursting the bottle.

decant it into smaller bottles and freeze it.

The big supermarkets sell milk as a 'loss leader' to entice you into their stores The farmers can't produce milk at those sorts of prices and are being put out of business by them The supermarkets arn't daft they know that families need milk and the chances are if you go in to buy cheap milk you will buy something else that they have scaled up to cover their costs with. They are on a win-win situation and the consumer falls for it time and time again.

It's for this reason why I've stopped buying milk in Supermarkets and now have it delivered. Ok, it's 64 pence a pint but I've actually saved money as I usually end up buying other stuff when I go to the supermarket.
