My girlfriend is in debt what should I do?

Family members have taken advantage in the past, she is in debt for £5000 so she says, but I sense it might be more.
I have no experience of talking to anyone in debt, how should I approach this?
Apart from hunting down her family who owe her, and directing her to this forum, what else could I do?
I'm a but miffed she could be so gullable in the past, that aside its not my business, or is it?
Any help advice much appreciated.
Thankyou

Hi
Is she managing to keep up with repayments on her debts (as far as you know)?
Do you live together? share housing costs? have any joint accounts etc?
Certainly directing her here would be great if she will come and post. Emphasize to her that its anonymous and full of people who have been in similar situations.
Then you (or she) needs to work out what stage she is at, in terms of how bad her debt problems are on a day to day basis.
This is quite a useful post that you could perhaps print for her or point her to - The Big Guide to Becoming Debt FreeA smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
