credit file

Never bothered before, but as I`ve had credit refused lately, I thought it was time to get my credit file to see whats happening.
On it were loans I`d had, all repaid, especially one in Nov 2010, which was paid as part of a PPI claim via Welcome Finance-but they had not updated the records, so it looks like I just haven`t paid at all.
There were 3 CCJ`S too, all around 2004/05, 2 of which I`d settled in 05/06, and the other which I`m currently paying at £75 per month.
If these creditors are quick enough to put your details on when you owe them, surely there should be a time scale where they have to update the said details when you`ve settled the accounts, or are in the process of paying it??
I know it stays on file for 6 years, but if you`ve paid & you`re trying to rebuild your credit file, not updating things makes you look like a right con artist!
I`ve been in touch with the 2 I`ve paid, & they are sending the relevant proof so I can forward it to the courts-but the 1 I`m paying off now, I can`t get in touch with-maybe if I stopped paying each month, they`d soon surface!
Also on there is a company called Lowell Portfolio 1 Ltd-haven`t a clue who they are, after searchin the net, apparently a debt collection firm-who are these people?
Any input on any of my points would be most helpful.
