Help need to find a stamp book!

This is an unusal request for me; although those that collect stamps may be able to help.

My Dad asked for a last minute Christmas present - a book that determines the quality of stamps. I understood from the snippets I got, that it means stamps are graded depending on whether they are not used (mint) or used and there are lots of inbetweens. He was looking for a book that would have detail these gradings with pictorial examples.

I don't even know where to start but have promised to produce the goods.
