help please! dropped iron on carpet, both a mess!

I just finishing ironing my trousers unplugged iron, turned around tripped over cable and iron fell off table onto carpet. Was only for 1 second, i grabbed it back up. Carpet has melted slightly and iron is a mess! Anything i can do to save anything?

    If the pile on the carpet is long enough,you might be able to shave off the melty part with a razor(like taking the bobbles off of a woolly jumper) or roughen it up with sandpaper.
    At least the iron didn't land on you,which would have been much worse.

    and you could try a non-stick fish slice to scrape muck off the *warm* (not hot) iron and use Iron Cleaner
    A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.
