Financial Associations and credit reports

ok, so kids got the computer whilst I went to get something, typical!

I have a question about credit reports, if someone is knowledgeable enough to help me?

I have just ordered and received my report from experian and I am quite shocked by the financial associations section.

Long story short, I got sucked in by a selfish greedy man when I was 18. 6 years and a lot of stress later, I am out the otherside trying to repair the damage. He left me in a lot of debt, stupid amounts, but thats not the problem. The problem is, after getting my report, there are in excess of 20 listed associations to him on credit file, all using his trick of changing his DOB at various different addresses, most of which I have never heard of. It looks like he has applied for credit dozens of times in my name from just about everywhere. Most of these are from 5-6 years ago before he took all he could get and left my rating shot to pieces.

My questions are:

How do I get rid of them? Do they ever just disappear? Is there something like a notice of dissociation or am I stuck being linked to him forever more?

I never had ANY joint credit/accounts as no-one would give him any, so why a I being plagued by him still?

Thanks in advance x

If you don't have any existing joint financial products (so no joint bank account or joint loans that are not settled) then you file a notice of disassocaition with eash of the 3 credit reference agencies.

Here is the experian link to do this online - http://www.uk.experian.com/contactforms/consumer_onlinedisassociation.html
I'm not sure if you can enter all his different aliases on 1 form or whether you are going to need to do several.

If you (he) tried to get any joint credit the applications may have formed the links.

  • Thankyou!

Will search out the other forms too and get this done.

Thanks for your help, I was panicking a bit.

    Regarding the debts
Did he persuade you to take out some of them for him but also applied and was accepted for some without your knowledge?
If so with the latter ones you could possibly try reporting him to the creditors and to the police for fraud.

Also not sure from you post but are some of the debts nearly 6years old and he/you haven't paid towards them for 6years (or nearly 6years)? if so there is a possibility that they are or could soon be statute barred, which would mean you didn't need to repay. If this might apply then be careful about contactomgcreditors/debt collectors until you have some more info.
