Company car keys stolen - who is liable to pay for lock change me or employer?

Hi,
Whilst I was at the gym someone broke into my locker and stole my mobile phone and company car keys. Fortunately I walked to the gym that day and so my company car was at home. There is no way (unless I was singled out and followed) that the thief would trace my home address.
The car is a BMW 320D 2011 model and so I assume it would be very expensive to replace the locks.
However, do you think I would be forced to pay for it or will my employers cover the cost?

It was my padlock that the thieves smashed. It was a big padlock so god knows how they did it and how no one noticed! It must have happened between 7.30 - 8.20 pm which is a busy period.
There are no security cameras in the locker room but there are in the main reception and car park. I assume the thief would have automatically went to the car park to look for my car so the CCTV should have someone randomly walking around the car park pointing and clicking at every BMW that was there!
Fortunately my car was at home!0 -
Did you tell the gym staff?
This happened at the gym my husband worked at recently with 2 different people. Well they thought it had, til they sawed off about 6 lockers in both of the changing rooms and then both people realised they had been looking at the wrong locker by mistake lol!
But anyway, the gym did call the police for one of the people so they could get it reported. Im guessing there is probably something in the contract when you join a gym they are not liable for any possessions you leave in there though. And I would guess same for company car, check any documents you have?0 -
so Im liable to pay for the lock replacement on the car? !!!!!!.0

No, the company should pay. They do have insurance for this type of thing. You might need to contribute something but it depends on what is in your contract. As it's not your fault I would not expect you to pay anything.
I have key insurance myself for £3 a month and this event would have been covered.
And...they don't replace the locks they'll cut a new key then get that key programmed. Cost about £100...:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

My advise would be just to ask your employer. Although I would assume it would be your employer since its a company car and the incident was out of your control. Also, the actual car was not stolen either. However best confirm with employer.
I would advise against posting such questions on this forum. Although there are some helpful people here but the majority have no clue and often just post something (often a scare story) just to worry you. HappyMJ not included and the other posters on this thread above mine not included.0 -

So I just have to ask for a new key reprogramed for the car? its one of those new style keys that you stick into a rectangle slot.0 -
Don't you have a spare key for the car?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0
