I think it's normal. I had a temporary job for ten weeks and was put back onto stage three (bleh). There's a proper term the Jobcentre use but I can't for the life of me remember what it was.

When I signed back on, I was told the system has changed now so the stages aren't as relevant anyway. You get the help when you actually need it rather than having to wait until you reach a certain stage before you get extra help.

does anyone know how you know what stage you are on? i've gone past 13 weeks but nothing has happened which is different, i thought 13 weeks was the end of the first stage.

The stages aren't really relevant any more as they've been phased out. Regardless of the 5 weeks you only get 26 weeks on contribution based JSA. You won't be eligible for Income based JSA if your partner works 30 hours.

after 13 weeks, you go to stage 2 where you have to sign on every week - thats the only difference I've noticed
