EXPERIAN + ROBINSON WAY coincidence?

Sorry if this is the wrong place but i didnt know where to post
I left the UK to live in the states in 1999 i had a Halifax cc which i paid off and i guess they didnt close the account . I later found out through a letter in 2003 that i owed £3000 to them through insurance charges on said card and then through non payment of those charges the interest on them.
I refused to pay it after fighting with halifax for about 2 weeks from the states as i never agreed to insurance and had what i thought closed the account. Robinson Way bought the debt, i have never spoken to them , written to them or acknowledged them in anyway at all. My parents stopped getting phonecalls and letters around 2008.. so that was that or so i thought!
I moved back to the UK in 2010 and after a bit of a struggle got a bank account, knowing i must have bad credit i never tried to obtain any.
About 2 months ago i got a free credit report from Experian and it was blank no BAD CREDIT to be seen at all just my one bank account in good standing, I figured i had been out of the country so long the Halifax debt was taken off the report.
I have since obtained a mobile phone contract and seem to be building credit. HOWEVER now i have just started getting letters from Robinson Way again out of the blue saying i now owe £5125 lol just thrown all letters in the bin and not acknowledged them again.
Is it a coincidence that after getting my report RW are hounding me again?
Also can RW place a CCJ on my report for the debt even though its over 11 years old?
My 30 days free trial is up so i dont want to pay to check my report to see if they have done this.
Any advice would be great.
Many thanks

Probably not. Getting your credit report has probably linked some data together and alerted outstanding creditors. Also can RW place a CCJ on my report for the debt even though its over 11 years old?
The would have to go to court for a CCJ.
If this debt has gone for over 6 years without acknowledgement or payments, then it would be statute barred.
Meaning they shouldn't be able to get a CCJ.

It's not a coincidence. You came up on their radar after applying for a credit report.
The debt (alleged debt!) would have become statute barred sometime in 2005. They cannot enforce it in court. Or if they tried, you have a defence.
If you state that you will not be paying them because of this, OFT rules say that they must stop collection activity on the debt.

thanks for answering. I shouldnt have said CCJ i meant to ask "Can RW mark my credit report as owed to them with the debt not originally being with them? Even though its 11+ years old?
I like having a clear report now and want to keep it that way.
ll help greatly appreciated.0 -

No, they can't.
Any old default would have been removed from your reports after 6 years. Once gone, they are not allowed to register another one, or record anything else about the debt.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
