Hello All
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
I am currently employed full time at a local company but im at my wits end to be honest.
My situation is me and my partner rent a house, my partner is 39weeks pregnant and has choric sciatica in her lower back. I work 9-5 Monday to Friday but lately Ive been asked to work 8-5. The thing is were I work, work is quiet at the minute so the owner has put me on a housing project he is doing. It is basically gutting a house and re-doing it ready to sell. Our General Manager is in charge at the housing project.
My partners mother is semi-retired so she looks after my partner 8.30-5 then does her cleaning jobs after tea. My general manager today said I have to start at 8am even though ive explained to him the situation at home and I have to wait for my partners mum to get to our house. My partner needs help going to the toilet etc due to the pain.
I am thinking of seeing the owner to discuss things but he isnt the type that is very sympathic.
I worked ten years for my previous employer and never had a problem at all but sadly the company closed down. Ive been with this company since November and I hate it.
I would like to know this please -
Ive been told my various people if you walk out of a job then you cant claim job seekers, housing benefit etc. I can take a lot but ive just had enough. I would just like to know if I would be entitled to anything if I handed in my notice?
Ive never claimed housing benefit, job seekers or anything in my life so I dont know were I stand.
Thank you again for taking the time to read this and help me out

have you put in a formal request under flexible working legislation?

New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -
thank you the reply Emmzi. I have not no but I will look at that now.0

I'm really sorry, I don't know whether you'll receive benefits after you've resigned but why not call the JSA claim line and ask them this - it should be fairly straightforward an answer.
On a slight aside, is your partner sure she has sciatica? it's only because from about 26 weeks I had SPD (sometimes known as PGP) and got some help from an antenatal physio - I know she must be close now but she must be in complete agony and this person might give her some advice. Congrats on the impending delivery!0 -
You would be crazy to walk out of a secure job with a baby on the way - you could be setting up yourself and your family for a life on benefits. Even the most disabled people ( my husband is disabled) can usually manage on their own for half an hour or so.0

Yes it def sciatica. We have just been told she has to rest and rub freeze gel onto the area. Cant take painkillers with her been pregnant.0

Thank you googlewhacker. I am trying hard to get another job and you are right. I have the two weeks off which is a plus!0

She's 39 weeks pregnant. You've only got one week or so to go and then things will change. Why not look for another job as that one is obviously getting you down?0

She can take paracetamol and she shouldn't suffer. One trick that really used to help was when going to bed sitting on the bed, putting my knees together and swinging round. If I had to change position, I'd do the same thing. Bless her, I wouldn't wish it on anyone but as another poster said, just focus on the next few weeks - it's the most amazing thing in all of the world and once you see your baby, trust me, your work issue will melt away.Seadogs_2010 wrote: »Yes it def sciatica. I am already looking for another job. I am looking into if I worked part time if tax credits would top up my earnings to something like a full wage.0
