Help! I've killed my PC...

I have the Sony XP Home disc here, you can download the Drivers from the website. You won't have all the bundled software that came with the PC, but that will only speed things up.
How much RAM is installed?0 -
I've not had a chance to try it yet as the PC is the only computer I have at the mo (currently on here on an iPhone) so I'm going to nip to a friend's tomorrow to download and burn the disc. Will let you know how it goes when I attempt it

Also, it has 512mb RAM, 120 GB HD on two volumes (C: and
) 0 -
Ok, I'll send you a link to the Sony disc. It's already licenced for use with your machine. So you can use it for a clean install if necessary.
So you can burn both discs. You should only need the Sony disc, but it's not a bad idea to have the other disc to hand in case of an error.
You'll have to wait for one download to finish before you can start downloading the other.0 -
Finally got around to doing this at the weekend. It turns out that my computer was beyond repair (whatever virus it had had wiped everything, all files, folders and the OS) but these disks and the product key on the back of the PC were enough to get me up and running again

Thank you so much for all your help

You should not need to iuse any product key with the Sony disc.
All fully activated?
Have you installed all of your updates?
Have you installed all of your Drivers? Go to the Device Manager and check for any yellow question marks.
What are you using for an anti-malware solution?0 -

The product key was for the Windows install which is all fully authorised and activated
I've run automatic update and have installed all updates.
All drivers are installed now
I've got AVG installed at the mo, but am looking into getting McAffee or Norton (just deciding which one at the mo, but I must say, AVG is serving me well)

AVG
Perhaps you can slot in some more RAM when finances permit.
1 GB here for £19.50
Then you can run whichever horrible choice of security suite that you desire without slowing your system down.
McAfee Internet Security 2011 you can buy for £6.79
Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 you can obtain for around £10
Norton Internet Security 2011 for around £16, perhaps cheaper.
When you are ready to purchase, revive this thread so that members can post their cheapest deals.0 -
Or Kaspersky Internet Security is free with Barclays online banking-not much available cheaper than that.
MCaffee or Norton-whatever are you thinking?!No free lunch, and no free laptop
