Printer/fax machine doesn't work as expected

Hi everyone. I bought an All-in-one printer last week so that I could fax to and from home. After setting it up I discovered that my phone will not work when it is connected to the machine, which means that I can only receive faxes by unplugging the telephone, I have contacted Epson and they say that it doesn’t work because the phone is a digital phone and the machine only supports analogue ones. I ask them where it says this in the literature and on their website. The response was "We would expect customers if unsure of any operation of our printers to contact us prior. Printers can be a large purchase and it is essential that whichever printer purchased it will meet our customers needs. For this we offer a free pre sales line” and "The website outlines the functionality of the printer and details what it is able to do not what the printer is unable to do. Again if this was not clear we are able to be contacted for this to prevent customers from making an incorrect purchase." I said that as it didn’t say that a digital phone wouldn’t work I automatically expected that it would therefore wouldn’t have considered it necessary to check. Can anyone give me any advice on this – I know that as I bought it online I can return it but it would mean I have to go to the expense of the postage and I don’t feel like I should have to pay when I bought it in good faith. Thanks

Which model did you buy and what is your phone?
Generally speaking, products mention what they can do and give a specification for what they will do.
With details of the model people can give further, more accurate advice.0 -
How have you connected your phone to the printer?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

The printer is an Epson Stylus Office BX305FW. It is connected to an ADSL filter. The phone, which is a BT Synergy 3505 is connected to the EXT slot. I can send and receive faxes ok providing that the phone isn't connected. Thanks0

Pop into Poundland and buy a new ADSL filter. The filters can degrade or fail. The man without a signature.0

Buy one of these, plug it into the filter and plug the printer and phone into it. Costs about 99p.0

The difficulty is that is not a phone but a DECT base station and answering machine. You can try the splitter mentioned above, but you may find the load on the line is too great. (see the manuals)0 -
A FAX machine what is that? Buy a pigeon?0

Isn't this quite standard? I know with our BT line at work we cannot be on the phone and use the card terminal whilst the phone is in use.0
