How do you make a wedding budget?

I've not got a budget as things vary so much and instead looking at what we want and finding the best quote (that is also good quality)

ie photographer... my Dad is a professional photographer but obviously won't be doing it on our wedding day, but we need one who is good so my Dad spoke with his friend who is a local football teams photographer to find out who he used, and we are going to see him this weekend coming to see his stuff and hopefully book. He was also on a list of photographers who give discount at my work's sports association.

Cake - my Mum used to do cakes professionally so my Mum and I are doing the cake.

Also using my sports association discount to get suits etc. OH works at a jewellers so making our own rings (mine from my grandads wedding ring, my sister and I are getting half of the gold each from it. It was my grandads dads, and my grandad gave it to my mum when she was pregnant with me and her wedding ring was too tight and he didn't like her going to work in london pregnant without a wedding ring, and my mum said my sister and I could have it for our wedding rings)

I'm trying where possible to get better deals/discounts such as got my young bridesmaids dresses from BHS in the sale etc

My future father in law got married to his wife 3 years ago and very kindly told us how he had thought it would be about 7k for his wedding but it was 10k and how much things are..... then went on about how much money he had.... but isn't contributing to our wedding or taking any interest just told us I should buy a bridesmaid dress as it would be cheaper than a wedding dress and you only wear it once...
