what is a year ?

I have paid off my debts, so now want to get the morgage down,
We are only allowed to pay 10% a year extra.....but what accounts as a year ?
is it january to december or april to march (as the tax year ?)

you will need to call your lender as some run jan - dec while others run with the tax year0

and some run with when your mortgage product started/completed0
