    I think the Irish Government have greater concerns what with;
    1. Bonds now at Junk status.
    2. A housing market on it's knees
    3. A banking sector at a point of no return
    4. More coverups from the Vatican..
    Fighting for a bit of land where almost three-quarters of people including a majority of Catholics, want the province to remain part of the UK, according to a recent poll seems somewhat .... daft!
    I believe it reported some 73 percent want to remain part of the United Kingdom, up from 66 percent in 2007.
    Unification with the Republic of Ireland was backed by 16 percent, down from 23 percent four years ago. A growing number of Catholics, traditionally regarded as favouring unification with the south, prefer to stay within the United Kingdom.
    I wonder why... see all points above!!

    I've heard these figures before and believe the representative minority never really wanted reunification in any case. There has always been a strong RC middle class who, despite the efforts of the old Stormont administration, preferred the benefits of living in a stronger economy and vote with the head rather than the heart. That middle class has grown much stronger now since proroguement and will get even more so. It's a slap in the face to the Marxist-Leninists that the policy of greater equality has weakened the case for reunification in their lifetime.

    That's my opinion anyway.

    No I think it's pure pragmatism. If you're born here and have intelligence then it stands to reason that you feel loyalty to the system which produced you and gave you education. Regardless of what left wing politicians want you to believe. Why would you want to give up membership of one of the largest economies in the world and all the benefits it brings to live in one of the smallest economies of the world. It doesn' make sense when you're trying to pursue a career, have a family etc etc.

    We've always known that the dissenters were small in number. The Lefties want us to believe that is because the minority community is only 30% of the total and that all of that 30% despises the UK and all it stands for. It doesn't do their cause much good when people from that community make it clear that reunification isn't part of their agenda and that sentiment weakens the entire Republican ethos.

    I thought you meant Co Galway. Isn't that where all the Brasilians live? They have a massive community in Gort apparantly :p How long before some of them get recruited to the ROI side :D
