Hello all you lovely old stylers!

I am pregnant and no longer fit in any of my normal clothes (especially trousers). I have already spent a small fortunes on two pairs of maternity jeans, one pair of 3/4 length trousers and a few tops. Where can I look for cheap, new maternity clothes. Or where would be a good source of second hand maternity clothes? I dont want to spend more than we need to.

Why not try Matalan...they have a big section now, and you can shop online ;)

Don't forget that you don't need to buy loads, just a "capsule wardrobe" that you can mix & match with what you already have.

Also, try your local Freecycle - you will probably get lots of baby stuff on there too!

Finally, buy a couple of good bras - Debenhams is a good place to start.
  • From what I have heard, it's good to adapt clothes in larger sizes to wear them as maternity clothes, like maxi dresses etc. Do you know someone any good at sewing?

For trousers, I have heard these bands (or similar) are good http://www.bumpband.co.uk/ You can leave your trousers unbuttoned or wear it a little lower.

    Hi
I have managed with the following:

    3 pairs maternity leggings £18 seraphine.com
2 maternity dresses - now sold on ebay
3 tops - black for work - a long sleeve top, a short sleeve top and a vest
1 pair of skinny jeans and a pencil skirt - didn't last long sold on ebay
1 pair comfy jeans - from next over bump have worn them a lot
1 pair white linen trousers next - awesome
    1 white shirt asos
3 pairs black trousers - 1 sold on ebay one listed

All these have been bought in sales or through quidco etc

I have sold my maternity clothes well on ebay. There are quite a lot of cheap items on ebay

I did have a few things that I continued to wear - tops that were loose around the waist and tight around the bust.

I managed without a coat using ponchos over the winter - also still fit in my usual bras. did invest in comfy knickers though

H&M, New Look (larger stores) and Matalan all do maternity wear and not at the ridiculous prices of Mothercare etc. Definitely look on eBay, Gumtree etc. Check out charity shops for tops that are a size or two up from your prepregnancy size. I too used ponchos. Also can I suggest getting a couple of Gap's hidden support vest tops, they are great for sleeping in when your breasts get fuller and ideal for those first couple of weeks after the little one is born when no bra fits and your boobies feel huge and need a bit of support. See if eBay has any Gap baby bundlers too, they are like night shirts for baby with elasticated bottoms, so much easier for middle of the night nappy changes plus baby can't lose their legs when they draw them up like what happens in a baby gro (excuse my poor grammer, I'm sleepy).
    Enjoy blooming.
First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.
  • Search 'maternity bundle' on eBay as people often sell a whole wardrobe as a job lot. I bought around 30 items for £40ish including postage and the vast majority fitted and were my taste. They've seen me through two pregnancies now. Dont forget you'll be able to recoup some of the money by reselling afterwards as well. HTH.

    Hi Jue'sDD,

As your thread has dropped down the Old Style board I've moved it over to the Health, Beauty & Fashion MoneySaving board to see if you can get some advice.

    I managed my pregnancy on:
    1 pair of jeans
    1 pair of black trousers
1 pair of dungarees (the only time I could get away with wearing them!!!!!)
    2 maternity tops

I survived with these limited bits and pieces because I didn't want to spend money on clothes I'd be wearing for under 9 months. Here are my tips:

Empire line clothes - these suit me and I had loads in my wardrobe, which I continued to wear (I was lucky becuase I didn't get too big)
    I 'borrowed' OH's t-shirts
I wore my regular trousers with the zip down and button held together with string (you can't see if you are wearing a baggy top).

ASOS website seemed to have a lot of Maternity stuff in the sale when I was on their site last week. I saw a lot of things I liked but then realised it all seemed to be the maternity range! So they do have nice designs for maternity wear :) I did find others things I liked in the end though! Hope you have luck finding things! :D

For cheap new stuff, try Peacocks, Matalan and New Look. It's also worth checking the sale rails in Mothercare, Next and Debenhams (Red Herring). Personally I found that 'bottom halves' needed to be decent brands, or I was fidgeting all day long!

For second hand, try ebay, or NCT Nearly New Sales (check www.nct.org.uk) - these are also both good places to get bargains for when baby is born!
