nails

am having a big blitz on my nails and they are slowly improving, using a very good handcream plus oil plus nail strenghtener.

What is best thing to gently encourage cuticles back? I have no hallf moons except on thumb nails. Years ago you could buy a little flattish tub of pink lanolin type stuff that you soaped up and it also cleaned nails generally and made the nail tips quite white. I dont think it exists any more, this is a long time ago.

Thanks in advance for suggestions!

71 views! I can't believe no-one has any ideas - no manicurists on this board?! Thanks!

The half moons on both my pinkie and ring fingers are barely visible.I don't think that you can do anything to make them more visible.

Using a good nail and cuticle cream every day would help with the cuticles.I use 'blisslabs nail & cuticle super groom'.

I am not a manicurist but since I lost all my nails I have found that they have all come back without half moons except on one thumb!! Have to be very careful with one of my hands but even with moisturising and protecting it from damage etc they still don't have them so maybe its not that unusual?

I've never had any problems with, or damage to my nails, and I only have half-moons on my thumbs.

For encouraging culitcles back, I take the low-tech apporach :P After (or during) and soak in the bath, or a shower, I just push the culticles back a little with the edge of my thumb nail on the opposite hand. Takes 30secs, no products, and works fine on damp skin. I even do it randomly during the day sometimes if I'm bored! It's easier with damp skin though...

I hope that you don't mind me asking where you live in Switzerland?

I live in Lausanne and this is the first time that I've come across someone on the forum who lives here.:)

Not at all! I live in Geneva. I just moved here 6 months ago from London, hence knowing the forum.

You should pop over to the "No more toiletries" thread - there's lots of general gossip and beauty tips besides the actual challange, and there's another girl living in Switzerland too!

You're not that far away then!I hardly know Geneva, only visited it a few times.:o

I've lived here for 15 years now.TBH I feel at home here, even though it's not really 'home'.I wouldn't consider going back to the UK for work. The working conditions/salary/standard of living are so good here compared to Britain. And of course it's a stunningly beautiful area and I love speaking French. Are you planning to live here for a while?Do you like it here?

I have sometimes thought about having a look at the 'No more toiletries' thread.I'll try and have a look soon...I'll maybe see you there!

Oooh since we have manicurists here :) a friend of mine has had problems with split nails since getting false nails done a few years ago (a mistake she won't make again :)) Anyway I suggested the teabag and nail varnish method which she's trying for splits in the middle of the nails, but her thumb nails are broken right down the sides - does anyone have any advice on how to grow them out? Would love to be able to buy her something for her birthday if there's a product that might help!

    Sorry to hijack OP :)
