Hi
I've been advised to open a new bank account if any of my debts are with my current bank, I didn't think any were but now I'm wondering.
My current account is with Alliance & Leicester which is now part of Santander and I have a credit card that was Alliance & Leicester but they changed it some time back to MBNA, however when I transfer payments from my current account to MBNA (this is the name on my statements) it shows that I've made a payment to Alliance & Leicester, confused? I am:think: anyway does anyone know if they are linked and should I change my account?
I also have a second MBNA card so if the first is linked possibly the second is too!!!

Hi Mrs Brassic,
I'm honestly not sure if they are linked, but if in doubt, would recommend changing to another bank.If you've nothing decent to say, perhaps you shouldn't say anything.

Hi
Just thought i've got PPI on my cards I will obviously need to get these removed do you think I should ring and ask for these to come off before I do anything else?0 -
what about co-op bank? their cashminder acc has a debit card( no cheque book or overdraft facility), and you can open one without a credit check, over the phone. Just remember to tell them you want a basic bank account, with no credit check. Most banking can be done at the post office so it doesnt matter if you dont have a nearby branch of co-op bank. Hope this helps?0

The Co-op sounds good as I have debts with MBNA, A&L, Argos, Mint & Halifax, yes I know I didn't think the list was going to stop either. The co-op shouldn't be linked with any of these should it?0

Is Mint linked to Royal Bank of Scotland?Anyway have a look on cooperative website for more info, they do internet banking as well, Ive not been with them long due to having to switch accounts due to debts like yourself!!, but the account is fine for what I need it for, direct debits etc. Some other co-op cashbuilder members may be able to advise you pros and cons of the account, once they read your post.0

was it a nightmare to swap? I have an overdraft that is taken straight from my wages as soon as its paid in and I can't afford to lose that money if it comes out and then my account is changed. I know I'm probably not thinking straight, please advise how it happens, thanks0

ring up and speak to them tomorrow, and open your account and you will feel much better as a staring point! I think it took about 3 weeks in total for me to swop over as i had to make sure that my next months wages were paid into the new acc by my employer. All the paperwork you will need to swop d/ debits etc will be in your welcome pack from the co-op. Let us know how you get on, good luck, you are another one of hundreds of people on this site that have "jumped ship from their bank". You will be fine.0
