Have bad credit, is pursuing a career in tourism management a good idea?

I'm looking to turn things around, I've been in a rut for a while now, most jobs I get don't get me anywhere, and currently have really bad credit. I always liked talking with people and have customer service experience, the travel industry seems like it could be something good to get into and I think I could succeed in this field.

I've been thinking once my debts are cleared, that maybe considering getting a BA in Tourism Management might be good for me. But with my bad credit will this be a huge hurtle for me if I do graduate? Is this something I should consider?

I worked as a tourism manager when going through a DMP.

I think credit history only has a real bearing on finance jobs.

I used to each Travel and Tourism and I can't see that this would be a problem. However, the industry is really badly paid so this could be difficult for you.

So this field isn't very good for a long term career? It looks like this course is a 4 year degree, costing over 25k in those 4 years. So in the end it wouldn't be worth my time your saying than?

What opportunities would a BA in Travel and Tourism offer?

Plenty of people have long term careers in T&T, I didn't mean to give the impression that wasn't the case, simply that it's not generally a well paid sector.

You might be interested in reading two online trade papers, both of which have an employment section.

What sort of area do you live in or could you relocate after doing the degree?

I'm in Toronto Canada. For me what would be ideal would be getting into a hotel and eventually move up to a hotel manager, something of that sort managing hotel operations at some point. I figure the T&T BA degree will help with getting my resume to stand out from the rest of the applicants if I'm applying in an entry level position. I don't expect to be making a six figure salary, but if I can eventually make 50k or close to that a year I think I will be happy and the cost for the degree will pay itself off.

I have no idea what the employment situation is like in Toronto so cannot comment but you'd be unlikely to earn anything like £50K in this industry in the UK.

If you want to work in hotel management I would suggest you do a Hospitality degree rather than T&T.

I am a post graduate in Tourism, have done many diplomas conneted to the travel industry...have nearly 10 years experience and now redundant, hunting for a job, and not able to get one....

Travel Industry, is very stressful compared to the pay...and the pay scale is not good....
