considering a 2013 wedding,

hi
just wondering if anyone can help,

I have recently got engaged and to be honest dont even know where to start in wedding planning,

I am rather quiet and shy so not sure I want to be centre of attention with a white wedding, how are other people getting round this?
also not sure I want to pay £50 a head for meals for family members that do nothing for me- what other options are there?

also thinking about a wedding abroad, maybe in late 2012 / 2013, where do you start? was thinking of first booking a holiday, but with the option of adding the wedding at a later date, the only thing with this is that holiday brochures only go up to oct 2012,

any help greatfully received, xx

    First of all congrats! :)

There are many on this thread that don't want to be the centre of attention, so someone should be able to help with that. As for not wanting to spend £50 pp on meal, you don't have to. We never really considered a three course meal as we knew we wanted afternoon tea! We are having that at 3.30 ish for £12 pp, and then instead of buffet later having fish n chips at under £5 pp. You jut need to think outside the box slightly, but saying that apparently afternoon tea is becoming more and more popular! :)

I can't really advise on weddings abroad, but a there are loads on here that can!

    Johanna thats a fantastic idea!

I've posted on the 2013 thread and I'm having a beach themed wedding. Fish and chips would be a brilliant 'twist'.

DF03 - Congratulations. If you don't want to spend £50+ on people you don't want to then you just don't. Would you still invite them though if they 'don't do anything for you'? Your wedding to to be shared with those closest to you who you want to share the wedding with; not people who you don't really want there.

If you want a holiday abroad, why not start by talking to travel agents, you don't have to use them in the end but they might help you out with booking a holiday in 2013 if prices aren't already out yet. If you book direct witht he hotels etc you should be able to book for 2013 and then wait for the flights to come out>
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

im getting married soon abroad for exactly the same reasons. i hate people looking at me and being the centre of attention.

also with divorced parents etc it was all too complicated! its just the two of us going. not everyones idea of a wedding and i must admit my mum was disappointed but i think everyone should have their wedding whatever way they want it.

do something you feel comfortable doing and something that suits you not others.
as for booking holiday/ wedding together. i think that very much depends were you are thinking. some destinations probably work out easier and maybe cheaper with a package but others work easier by booking separate. were going to vegas so we just booked the hol then the wedding after.
call into the travel agents. they have loads of destination ideas in their wedding brochures to get you thinking!

    good luck and congrats!
