Correcting / improving my credit record - assistance required please!

Firstly, I am not sure where this should be posted because I couldn't really find a section for it but please feel free to re-direct or move this as appropriate. I have posted in here because this is the section that I seem to lurk in most of the time and you guys seem to be very helpful.

I checked my credit record (with Experian) yesterday and to my surprise there are a couple of bits which are incorrect and / or could be improved and this is where I was hoping for some help and / or guidance please.

1) For some reason my credit record states that I am not on the electoral roll. However, I always get a voting card and I am recorded on 192.com (in fact more than once!) so I am not sure why this is. I live at home with my parents who also run a business from the premises. As such, there are two slightly different addresses which I think might be where the error has come from. Does anyone know anything about this and / or know how I would go about correcting it? I don't want to log it as a house-move because this will have an adverse effect on my credit score I think.

2) I also have two 'previous search' logged against me within the last 12 months. One is an 'unrecorded enquiry' which I believe lenders can not see (I think but please correct me if I am wrong) so I am not too worried about although I would still like it removed because it has nothing to do with me! The second is an 'insurance quotation' relating to RBS and Churchill. I have no idea what this is about because I have never asked for a quote from either of these companies and not made and claims etc for several years. My questions are a) why are these logged against me and b) how do I go about getting them removed?

I am hoping to get a mortgage in the next couple of months and need to improve my credit record as much as possible, hence the reason I am trying to sort this out now.

Sorry this has turned out to be quite a long post. Any help or assistance will be very gratefully received.

I'm not sure the insurance quotations will harm your application for a mortgage, but I'd contact experian regarding not being on the electoral role. You could also apply for a credit card and clear the balance each month to avoid paying interest/charges. If you have any negative credit before or arn't on the electoral role, I'd imagine you'd be lucky to get a high interest "Bad Credit" card, so you'd be better getting that sorted first.
If you've nothing decent to say, perhaps you shouldn't say anything.

Yes, contact us about the electoral roll. Sounds like we just need to bring together the two versions of your address. Going forwards, make sure the address you quote on credit applications and so on is the one your local council uses on the electoral roll.

As for the searches, only credit application searches can be used in scoring. Other searches, such as quotes, ID checks, your checking your own report etc - don't count.
