Woolwich mortgages

Hi

I am wondering if anyone has any recent experiences with applying for a mortgage with the Woolwich? Just wondering what the timescales are e.t.c..?

I started an application over the phone last Tuesday, sent in my payslip (the only document they requested!) and if they receive this tomorrow, they say that the app will spend about 5 working days with the underwriters before they even instruct a survey.
What are the chances of getting a mortgage offer from them before the end of the month? I'm a Barclays customer so I thought it would be a lot quicker than this...

I've read posts on here of people going from mortgage app to offer in a week!

Should I go to a broker and try somewhere else just to be on the safe side? Worried as Barclays now have my most recent payslip :(
I've read some really bad reviews about the Woolwich!

Cheers!

  • Hi Apples25

We are currently waiting on our mortgage offer from Woolwich.
We started the process in June and it seemed to go quite quickly at first.
We had our mortgage approved and then the valuation took place on Friday 1st July.
Since then we have been asked to re-send payslips last monday and not heard anything since.
I have called my broker today and asked him to find out what the hold-up is as we are due to be exchanging this Friday!
When i have searched around on the interent, the Woolwich do seem to get bad reviews but they had the best deal we could see at the time. The main complaint was the lengthy administration which we seem to be suffering from a little bit.
A broker made life easier for us for sure but from other reviews i would say that if you are in a rush to exchange and complete the admin time may hold things up.

To be honest, from reading on here, some people get everything in a week and other get everything in a month or more so i reckon a bit of pot luck is at play also.

We are on a tight deadline now so things seem more stressed but as we have not dealt directly with them i can not comment on customer service directly.

If i hear any interesting updates on service etc... i'll post again.

Thanks for that accountingbod...seems like a mixed bag of reviews to me! Out of interest were you already a Barclays customer? How long after sending in your application did they instruct a valuation?

Until a mortgage offer has been received by your solicitor then no date will be set. As your solicitor won't have started the full process yet.

I completed on my Woolwich remortgage today. I applied at the end of April and had my offer letter within 3 weeks. I've had a couple of admin issues since then but mainly due to me changing products to a lower rate since my first offer letter.

I have had a broker who has chased relentlessly but I have to say that Woolwich have responded very quickly when chased. I have yet to experience their customer service first hand and am hoping to avoid all contact with them over the next few years!
