Anyone used Costco opticians?

I'm pretty certain I'm going to need glasses as I'm beginning to find it difficult to focus on the tv and other faraway objects.

There's an opticians in my local Costco and I wondered if they were a good deal for the eye test, frames and lenses or if it would be better to go elsewhere.

I've never bought glasses before so would appreciate any mse advice please!

    go to tesco
free eye test for everyone, no obligation to get glasses from there
ask for your prescription to take away (legally have to give it) as for your PD too if you can get it (PD stands for PUPILLARY DISTANCE guide for doing your own here if not (text removed by MSE Forum Team) for ultimate saving order online ( do a search on forum for martins guide) but maybe for your first pair try an actual optician to help fitting etc
have a look around and dont be pressured to buy from any optician on the day
avoid 1 hour places = vvvv expensive

In response to the original question - my husband has recently had glasses (and eye test) supplied by Costco. The eye test was booked and taken same day, completed very efficiently. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly. There was no pressure to buy there at all and he was given both his prescription and a note of PD. In the event he did make the purchase there and the glasses were ready in 4 days.

We were both impressed with the professionalism and service and will happily return.

OH has been having eye tests and buying lenses etc from Costco for years, I've been trying to talk him into having the free eye tests at Boots/Tesco, but he wont budge from Costco - also very happy with their lenses - they always give 4-8 sets free with a purchase or to try beforehand, plus their lens solution etc works out the cheapest.

Same as in Tesco. Advised me to go straight to hospital as I had Glaucomatocyclitic crisis in my right eye, optician spotted this. Optician was very thorough as well.

Thanks I've found out there's a Tesco Optician near me so will probably book the free eye test. I presume from the replies that Costco charge for eye tests?

Also do the prices in opticians nowadays include frames and lenses or do you normally have to pay extra for lenses?

yes costco do for eye tests, thats not to say if you find a frame you like in costco that it wont be cheaper there than tesco or anywhere so ensure you shop around, most places will have similar if not identical frames.

I looked at gettin my daily contact lenses from costco, but found it cheaper to order online at tesco with quidco (have astigmatism so have to get toric lenses which are not cheap anywhere unfortunately)

the eye test they do is certainly very good and comprehensive. they also automatically give you a full copy of your prescription, which some high street shops can be a bit funny about (even though they shouldn't be!). i've never experienced a hard sell there but do find the lenses cheaper there than other shops (online may well be cheaper though). often they do free eye test promotions too so it's worth looking out for it.
