Fixing leather boots?

Hi, I have some leather riding boots which I use all the time. The leather on one of them has started to crack and flake off across the top. It has not yet turned into a hole, just the leather is missing in places. the other boot is fine. Is there anyway of fixing the boot as I have only had them since may and I dont have the money to but new ones! I was thinking is there maybe some stuff I can spread on top to seal the top layer? The boots are black so preferably something black to seal them with. It would have to be waterproofish as they do get walked through mud. thanks

Try Hydrophane leather dressing on them - it should help with the cracking although it will only darken leather rather than re-blacking them. If you apply saddle soap/dressing regularly they should be fairly waterproof but tack shops sell waterproof over-shoes which protect the boots in mud and general yard grime. If you've only had them since May I'd contact the manufacturer and find out what they'd recommend.

thanks I have just emailed the manufacturer. I use saddle soap on them usually, so I dont know why they have cracked so badly! or should I say one of them has cracked badly. Thanks againNovember £10 a day challenge. Im starting early- 66p so far!0
