credit check

I applied for my credit report online from Equifax. They didn't give me the report online instead gave me a reference number and asked call a 0843..... number. Has any one come across that and why I need to call this number?

They sometimes cannot give you access straight away if they are having difficulties in confirming your identity/establishing you are who you say etc.

You could try calling customer services on this cheaper 020 phone number - although they may still say you need to ring the other one.
How to cancel: To request cancellation call 0844 335 0550 (020 7298 3000, and ask for customer services can also work) and quote your product reference.

I had to do this, it's just to make sure you are who you say you are :) xx

  • I was shocked to actually find that Experian had no questions for me at all when signing up?

I think if you are on the electoral roll and can answer a few questions when you sign up then that will often be enough for them to accept your identity. If you are not on the electoral roll, you have credit accounts in an old address or don't have much credit history for them to verify these are the types of things that mean the might need to speak to you.:)

Asked few questions about the date I moved into each properties. Then aske me to e-mail them a scanned copy of my ID (driving licence, copy of a bank statement....) within 48 hours, they will then activate my account. Does that happen to any one else?
Is that mean they have no record of me?

I have few debts which over over 7 years old at my old address. I don't know whether I have CCJ on any of them. I moved abroad for a while then came back to a different address. I didn't have a bank account for 7 years and was not in electroll register either. I have been living inthe same address for the last 6 years but only put my name down in the electroll register in january this year. I opened a new current account with Metro bank last week without any problem. Metro bank told me they had to do a credit check on me before opening the bank account which they did infront me. so Equifax must have a record of that surely???
