    what is your budget like?

If you hair is quite thick i personlly wouldnt opt for cheapish ones as you will be there for hours

These are the ones i use - My hairs thick, naturally has curls and is below shoulder length

in argos they retail for £81!! http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4434940/Trail/searchtext%3EBABYLISS+PRO+230.htm

I had saved up to GHD's and my mum found these last year on offer - Never looked back since.

The bumpy plates that you can see can actually be lowered -It's to come your hair whilst straightening it. I have mind on the "medium" setting as i find the "full" setting pulls my hair a bit.

My hair falls out due to medication (not so much now but used to be CLUMPS!) and i like the straighteners because you can lower the heat setting on them on a "bad" day.
    • Heats up to 230°C using Cera-Heat technology with extra power heaters and ceramic titanium plates
    • Advanced Ceramics system heats up in 15 seconds and maintains constant high heat during use
    • Ionic conditioning steam adds moisture to the hair smoothing out frizz for a healthy looking shine
    • Retractable de-tangling fins give a natural combing effect for easy to control straightness
    • 10 temperature settings - ranging from 170°C to 230°C - for every type of hair and style
I like that they only take 30 seconds to heat up - I normally put mine on just as i'm about to finish blow drying my hair, by the time i've brushed it to get the nugs out my straighteners are ready to use :)

You might not need to straighten your hair every day either (Unless obviously if you wash it every day) I tend to wash and straighten my hair one day, the next day use dry shampoo (hairs still straight - ish!) and then wash again

I had the babylis 230s (red with steam). I couldn't use them in the end: they are great if you have long hair (like longer then shoulder length) but having short hair they are just too bulky and not so easy to use. Make sure whatever you get the iron is the correct type or width for your needs.
  • For short hair I'd go for slimline ones - as Jenniewb mentioned, wide plates are fiddly for short hair

I second the babyliss pro radiance, they are brilliant straighteners. Keep an eye out in Boots, mine were £39.99 in there on offer last year.

I also own a pair of fake GHD's I picked up for £20 in Egypt last year as emergency spares and they are fab!

oh, I need slimline ones then as I have shorter hair. Getting a bit muddled, is one of the Bayliss models suitable? My hair doesnt need a lot of straightening, just between Brazilian hair treatments which I make last about 5 months. Thanks
